Mario Kart Wii-A fun family favourite

We all know about Super Mario. The familiar face of the plumber out there rescuing his true love dodging turtles and battling the evil Bowser (who come to think of it looks like one of the supply teachers at that Secondary education job I sometimes do). The game reached new heights of popularity, prompting Nintendo to make a spin-off, combing the gamers love of Mario and racing to form a new, concept, Mario Kart. Nearly fifteen years later, Nintendo roll out the latest, sixth edition of Mario Kart, for the new Nintendo Wii. An old retro favourite, revamped for today’s modern gaming.
Mario Kart Wii still has it, the legendary Grand Prix which boasts of old favourites like Sherbet Land, but at the same time, unveiling new, contemporary tracks like Coconut Mall. As well as Grand Prix, it has Vs. Race, Time Trials and Battle, which has been modernised so you play against CPU characters as well as each other. As well as the well known characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi being featured, there are some new characters introduced like Birdo, Baby Daisy and even Mii characters can be played. Nintendo Wii are also ringing the changes in game control, as a new Nintendo Wii wheel attachment has been added to the Nintendo Wii range, by fitting this attachment to the Wii remote, there is an experience of real driving as you steer the wheel like driving a car, however if the standard gaming is preferred, the Wii nunchuck and Gamecube controller can also be used.
However the best feature of Mario Kart Wii has to be the added bonus of the Wii’s Wi-Fi. Initially Wi-Fi was introduced in Mario Kart DS, but the Wii takes Wi-fi to the next level. Now, gamers can race and battle each other, literally, from all over the world. Thanks to the Wii’s Wi-Fi capability players can race each other in the same region, all over the world, or simply with their own friends on their friends list. Players can choose which track they want by voting and the CPU will randomly choose one. The new Wi-Fi feature also brings new competitiveness, as there is a points system. Players start from 5000 points, and the value increases on winning and decreases on losing, and a higher points level determines the ranking of the player.
Mario Kart is a fabulous game that has been a fixture of Nintendo and the new Wii version is the icing of the cake. There is a retro feel, yet it has been modernised for the sleek and modern Nintendo Wii.
