Star Wars: The Old Republic

There have been many, many games released set in the Star Wars universe. Most of them have failed miserably, which is a massive shame considering how expansive the history of Star Wars is and how well set up the universe is. There have been a couple of great Star Wars games as well, Knights of the Old Republic comes to mind as well as the sequel that followed it and both Jedi Knight 2 and Rogue Squadron were a lot of fun too. However, good games have been too few and far between.

The Star Wars franchise is about the enter the world of the online games market for the second time with Star Wars: The Old Republic. The last outing; Star Wars: Galaxies, was hardly a massive success. Whilst there were some good elements to the game, it was overly complex, full of bugs and required some truly monotonous game play to level up.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has been created by Bioware, the team behind Knights of the Old Republic, and is set 300 years after the latter game. In a period of unstable peace, you can choose to side with the Republic or their Sith enemies and live out your Star Wars fantasies as a force wielding Jedi Knight, or sinister Sith Inquisitor. There are several more characters and classes and customisation will be a part of any class and character combination.

A release date of Spring 2011 means there is plenty of time to get excited about this game, plenty of time to get my apple mac repair sorted out so I can play it on a computer with decent speakers, and plenty of time to make sure the creators get it right. The gaming world is desperate for a fantastic Star Wars MMO and hopefully, they can finally have one.
